The John Butler Trio
Jarrah Records was founded in July 2002 as John Butler's and The Waif's record label for the territory of the USA. Now as these artists expand into 2003 Jarrah records has been launched in Australia to represent both acts and is totally owned by the bands themselves.
The Waifs have been together for ten years. They started as two sisters singing covers, then became three with the addition of Josh Cunningham and started recording their own songs subsequently releasing four albums. The Waifs toured Australia incessantly for 8 years, building up a solid fan base, before heading for the States, Canada and Europe in 2001 and becoming stars of the folk circuit there. They have been the definition of an independent band, taking on all aspects of the music business themselves, including distribution, booking shows and recording records. In 2001 / 2002 The Waifs joined forces with manager Phil Stevens and MGM distribution and were nominated for two Aria awards.
The John Butler Trio have followed a similar path and along the way become great friends with The Waifs. Using The Waifs as their role model in their early years and sharing the same management team, John Butler has now become a household name in Australia. Along the way playing all the major festivals, winning an Aria award for best independent album at the 2001 Aria's and guesting with Kasey Chambers at this years awards. They are looking forward to recording a new studio album in the winter of 2003, for release in the spring. The John Butler Trio are releasing "Living" a collection of live songs from his time on the road in the last few years, so people can relive the magic of their live performances.
